Family Room Makeover. The clients wife gave him a big screen t.v. for Xmas. He built a make shift table and put a blanket on it. Problem solved-right? Not so much. They took the advise of a friend and hired Mussman Design to give them a WOW family room makeover. Stan & Andrea Mussman demoed the dated brick fireplace and installed a beautiful new cast stone fireplace. Next, the designer's bumped out the wall where the fireplace is, and installed new custom cabinets with lots of storage for the children's toys. We added crown, selected a new paint color, carpeting, drapery, accessories and used the client's existing furnishings and throw pillows.
Family Room Makeovers. "I have to say that in the realm of family room makeovers, my favorite part has to be ......well, the whole room! I absolutely love everything! The fireplace and cabinets are a huge improvement, as well as practical, since we now have more storage than we know what to do with-especially for the kids toys. The drapes were a welcome addition, frame our patio and the wooded view beyond. The polka dots on the drapes are actually cork. Very swank! Stan and Andrea just delighted us with 2 or 3 options for every decision we had to make, and were agreeable to using our existing furnishings and throw pillows. They were very patient , but always had a clear favorite, and we usually went with their recommendation." Leslie S.
Living Room Interior Design. The clients purchased the home with this wonderful fireplace, so the room already had "good bones". We removed the carpet and installed hardwood floors, used the existing paint color, installed electrified wall sconces, added the drapes and cornice and installed the area rug, furnishings and accessories. This living room interior design project was completed in 2005.
Dining Room Interior Design. Mussman Design removed the carpet, installed hardwood floors and had the area rug custom made for this dining room interior design project. The dining room table has leaves that are on a radius and fit around the edge of the table. Storage for the leaves is in the buffet. We re-framed the existing art between 2 layers of non glare glass. This breathed new life into it. Next, we selected and installed the chandelier, wall sconces, and silver leafed and antiqued the ceiling inset. We used the clients existing mirror.
Dining Room Interior Design. Mussman Design completed this dining room interior design project in 2005 . We installed crown and silver leafed and antiqued the ceiling. The drapes are silk, and the drapery hardware is finished to complement the silver leafed ceiling inset. "I am Armenian, and my heritage is near and dear to my heart. Stan and Andrea suggested that we pay homage to my heritage by having the family name woven into the rug. It's cleverly concealed, and it's quite a conversation piece, since family and friends have to really search for it." Leon S.
Kitchen Interior Design. This kitchen interior design and remodel is for a bachelor and a serious gourmet chef in his spare time. He lacked adequate space for all the gourmet appliances he wanted to purchase. The kitchen was a throw back to the 70's, and needed a complete overhaul. This had been a combination kitchen with adjoining family room. Notice in the before of this space that the peninsula with the gas cook top is where the sofa used to be. We reclaimed the entire room and re-purposed the adjoining family room for the kitchen dining room.
Dining Room Interior Designers. Dining room interior designers sometimes forget to "think outside the box". The client is a young single man. He asked for a Chicago men's club kind of setting where he and his buddies could sit around and smoke cigars, have a nice meal and enjoy the fruits of their labors after the game. Go '9ers!!
Living Room Interior Design. This living room interior design pays homage to the clients love of the color red. Notice the pendant lights over the accent tables, which do not have lamps taking up valuable real estate in this very elegant living room. Also, notice the interesting shadow on the ceiling cast by the chandelier. The black and beige wool area rug grounds the space. The drapes are custom designed and are not meant to be pulled over the window, but instead to soften the hard edges of the windows.
Family Room Interior Design. Mussman Design completed this family room interior design in 2012. This custom bench/ottoman was covered in bomber jacket leather and the glass shelf doubles as the perfect spot for the remote, a drink or a snack. The contrasting wall colors helped cozy the room up, and the leather sectional and beautiful area rug grounded the space. The credenza, wall art and accessories on the back wall finished the space with a nod to comfortable elegance. We spend a good amount of our lives in our family rooms. Why not "spice things up" a bit?
Commercial Interior Design. This commercial interior design is the executive office of a non profit foundation located in San Jose. The client asked for subtle references to the San Francisco 49ers-thus Mussman Designs use of red and gold. The foundation benefits inner city youth who show promise in their artistic endeavors by awarding them a full scholarship to the San Francisco Art Institute. Closely associated with the nonprofit is the Make A Wish Foundation.
Kitchen Remodel. This client recently retired after a long career as an engineer at General Electric, and his first order of business was to take a co-workers suggestion and called Mussman Design for a complete kitchen remodel and design. We met with the clients and evaluated their needs, and within about 3 weeks Stan & Andrea Mussman had a complete kitchen re-design planned and approved. The designers also re-designed the entrance, downstairs guest bath and family room.
Modern Fireplace Interior Design. Mussman Design was asked by this client to redo her traditional white wood painted fireplaces throughout her home. Upon completion of this modern fireplace interior design, the designers were asked to complete the entire home with furniture, accessories, art, drapery, floor coverings and new paint colors.
Kitchen Cabinet Refacing. This ranch style home had a kitchen trapped in the 80's. Notice the antiquated lighting panels on the ceiling, the tired oak cabinets, counters and back splash. Instead of demoing the cabinets, Mussman Design suggested kitchen cabinet refacing since the cabinets were well made back in the day, and the lay out of the kitchen did not need to be changed. Quarter sawn white oak cabinet doors and facing in a natural finish, new crown, updated lighting, new island, counter tops and back splash brought this tired kitchen up several degrees.
Transitional Living Room Design. The clients married late in life-a second marriage for them both. While she is more traditional, he is more contemporary. The designers assisted the client's to" meet in the middle", giving them both a look they love. The traditional sofa and the club chair are both a nod to her design aesthetic, while the contemporary area rug, grommeted drapery and the armless chair are a nod to his design aesthetic. Thoughtful detail was paid to each and every element of this very comfortable transitional living room design. The best part? No one felt left out. A win-win for both clients!
Fireplace Remodel. The clients hired another design firm to assist them with their fireplace remodel. Not being able to obtain a permit for their design, they walked off the job. The clients took a friend's advice and asked Mussman Design to complete the project. Within three weeks three new designs were submitted, and the clients chose this very contemporary design. The clients accompanied the designers on a buying trip to the San Francisco Design Galleria, and new furnishings and accessories were selected. The area rug was custom made just for this space.
A Glamorous Bedroom Design. This glamorous bedroom design is Alison Mussman's (pictured above left) first project on her own under the watchful eye of her dad, and completed in 2009. The client asked for a sanctuary where she can unwind at the end of a long day at the office. She wanted a seating area where she can curl up with a good book instead always having to lay in bed to read. She wanted her room to be colorful-but not too colorful, restful, yet elegant with lots of bling. "I love, love, love everything about this room! Mussman Design really outdid themselves, and for that I am grateful. Thank You Alison for a job WELL DONE!"
Master Bedroom Interior Design. The project started out with the living, dining and family room interior design including new paint, chandeliers and lighting, drapes, accessories and wall art. When the clients saw the project coming together, they added the master bedroom interior design. The Mrs. instructions were: I want a really, really nice bedroom- an oasis.
Bath Interior Design. This is a guest bath Mussman Design was asked to design for a commercial builder in the Silicon Valley for his own personal residence. His teenage daughters use this bathroom the most, so we gave the space a glamorous feminine edge-but not too feminine, nor too glamorous. After all, guests use this space from time to time as well.
Living Room Interior Design. Mussman Design was introduced to this client by their real estate agent. The client asked for a space that would be very simple, clean and refined. Going on the premise that more is less, the designers located and installed upholstery and tables with very clean lines for this living room interior design. Accessories and art were kept to a minimum.
Kitchen Cabinet Reface. This is a mountain retreat near Lake Tahoe. The space was dark and depressing, and lacked cohesion. The furniture was overstuffed bargain warehouse. The cabinets were a throw back to the 70's with dark grainy oak. Mussman Design painted the interior, installed new "with it" lighting, furniture, accessories, and drapery. The kitchen cabinet reface and new counter tops is a huge improvement, don't you agree?
Bath Remodel. This is a mountain retreat bath remodel near Lake Tahoe. The Client told us she wanted a Candace Olson spa like bath. Mussman Design gutted this very depressing space, and had a little celebration when all the unsightly wood siding came down. The matching wall mirrors with attached shelves were custom designed by Andrea Mussman. Sometimes there may be a little margin for error-small fix it kind of things on a punch list. Not in this bath. Every little inch was critical to the design. We had to get it right the first time or go home. We got it right, and now the clients can come home to this beautiful spa retreat. What can we say?
Contemporary Dining Room Design. This contemporary dining room design is for a young singele professional athlete. He asked for a Chicago men's club atmosphere-a place where he could relax with his friends and fellow team mates, have a nice meal, smoke cigars and have a drink or two.
BATH INTERIOR DESIGN. Stan & Andrea Mussman re-designed several rooms for the clients in their Los Gatos home between 1997-2000. The clients built a new home starting in 2002, and asked Mussman Design to assist with their new home as well. This is one of 5 bathrooms in the new home.
BATH INTERIOR DESIGN. Mussman Design worked with the clients on the re-design of all the rooms in their Los Gatos home between 1997-2000. In 2002 the clients built a new home, and asked Mussman Design to assist with the design on this home as well. This bath interior design is one of 5 baths for the new home.
BATH INTERIOR DESIGN. This bath interior design is one of 5 in a clients new construction. Mussman Design assisted the clients with their 1st California home in Los Gatos home between 1997-2000. In 2002 the clients asked us to assist them with the new home they were building. We designed and selected all of the materials for the new home.
KITCHEN INTERIOR DESIGN. This is the new kitchen interior design for clients Mussman Design assisted with their previous home in Los Gatos. Every detail of this very contemporary kitchen was very carefully planned with the clients design aesthetic in mind.
CONTEMPORARY LIVING ROOM INTERIOR DESIGN. This contemporary living room interior design is the second home Mussman Design assisted the clients with. We worked on their Los Gatos home between 1997 and 2000, redesigning nearly all of their interior spaces. This new home was built starting in 2002, and Mussman Design worked closely with the client, architect and builder.
MASTER BATH INTERIOR DESIGN. This master bath interior design features everything contemporary, sleek and modern down to the windows at the tub that "fog over" at the touch of a button for privacy. Mussman Design worked closely with the client, architect and builder from the preliminary blue print stage.
BATH INTERIOR DESIGN. This master bath interior design was completed in 2000 for a client who moved to California from New York. Mussman Design did several rooms in the clients home. This bath already had the marble, tile and fixtures. We completed this bath with a faux finish, the drapery and all of the couture accessorizes that brought it into an entirely new light.
CONTEMPORARY LIVING ROOM INTERIOR DESIGN. The client moved to California from New York in 1997, and initially asked Mussman Design to design a contemporary fireplace to replace her very traditional white painted fireplace in her living room with the promise that if we gave her a design that she really liked, that we could design the entire home. Between 1997 and 2000 Mussman Design worked on every room in the home with the exception of the wine cellar. Then in 2002 the client asked the designers to work with her on a second home from the blueprint stage. Several of the rooms in the new home are featured in this portfolio.
CONTEMPORARY FIREPLACE DESIGN. This contemporary fireplace design was completed by Mussman Design in 1997 for a client who's only request was "I hate my traditional wood fireplace, and want it replaced with something sleek and modern". After successfully completing this fireplace the designers were asked to re-design the entire home.
TRANSITIONAL LIVING ROOM INTERIOR DESIGN. This transitional living room interior design is a twist on the traditional living room design since instead of the expected sofa and love seat, the designers chose gathering chairs instead. This is a quite space in the home away from the noisier rooms such as the family room or the kitchen. You can relax and enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail with friends in this intimate setting. Have you ever wondered what to do with the high walls? Why not create a gallery of your favorite art? This can be very effective if the art chosen is compatible. Photo: Stan Mussman
